Clymont Memorial Society

Clymont Community League is volunteer-led and operated. There are many volunteers who spend countless hours on events, programs, and day-to-day operations. Clymont Memorial Society was started in 2011 to honour the significant contributions of these volunteers!

We want to ensure we don't take these efforts for granted. We celebrate our volunteers, past and present. Several successful projects, events, and fundraisers have created beautiful spaces and fun community events dedicated to the volunteers that have built and maintained the hall and contributed to the social and recreational experiences of their neighbours, family, and friends.

Tree & Memorial Obelisks for Volunteers

The volunteer tree is proudly placed inside the hall. It was built in 1989 to honour the people who volunteered significantly in the building of the new hall and now to the League and it's projects. Today, people who have volunteered with the League based on number of hours and number of years are chosen for the tree by the members of the league. To nominate a person for the tree, any member at any monthly meeting can bring names forward for consideration. The typical process is: The executive committee will consider names presented during the year by reviewing their contributions in January and February annually. The committee recommendations would be brought forward to the Annual General Meeting in March giving a synopsis of why they should be added or not added to the tree. Approved names would then be put on the Volunteer Tree by Community Appreciation night and names announced at the function.

In the Clymont Memorial Garden located just behind the hall is a tree-lined sidewalk leading to a fountain and benches. In this circular area, there are four obelisks that hold the names of volunteers who have passed. Annually, the Society meets to review the Volunteer Tree located in the hall and from those names, prepare the plaques that will honour those volunteers who have passed.
